Miami Dolphins +7
Yes, the Dolphins have only ONE win and the Jets have only ONE loss. However, the Jets have taken advantage of a "soft" schedule that has included the Dolphins, Bengals and Bills. Despite the fact that the Jets have opposed only TWO squads with a winning record so far, the Jets amazingly have NOT had a contest decided by more than EIGHT points!!! I have always loved to side with "defensive underdogs". Miami certainly fits into that category as they have allowed 17-or-LESS points in 5 of the past 7 outings. The bottom line is that as long as you have a solid defense, you are ALWAYS in the game. Last week against the Rams, the excellent Miami secondary tandem of Patrick Surtain and Sam Madison held Torry Holt to just ONE catch. The Dolphins also intercepted a Marc Bulger pass in the endzone. Of course, Miami is off to an awful start because of major offensive preseason losses (RB Ricky Williams and WR David Boston). Actually, the biggest problems for the Dolphins offensively has been horrible blocking by a suspect offensive line, which has led to shaky play by the quarterbacks. Last Monday Night, I thew all logic out the window as Cincinnati made a STATEMENT following a 12 year MNF ban. This week, I am putting aside the overall records of the respective teams because this is a RIVALRY game where strange things have been known to happen. The Jets have defeated Miami in 10 of the past 13 series meetings, including earlier this year at Pro Player Stadium. HOWEVER, Miami now has the chance to play SPOILER against a team that has given them great difficulty during the many years when they were a winning squad. Basically, tonight's rivalry set-up will force Miami to play with more INTENSITY. In this seasons' first clash between these two, the Jets picked off 2 passes and recovered 2 fumbles enroute to a 17-9 victory. However, Miami finally got into the win column last week in a game where the Dolphins committed ZERO turnovers for the first time in 23 GAMES. QB Jay Fiedler threw for 203 yards and finally did NOT get flustered despite constant pressure. The non-existant Miami RUNNING game has finally come to life as Sammy Morris has rambled for 174 total yards on the ground in the past two weeks. What really grabbed my attention last week was that the Dolphins finally showed some CREATIVITY. In the victory against the Rams, Miami has a wide receiver throw a pass, faked a punt and unleashed a REVERSE on a kickoff. On a 3rd down and 28 play, Miami ended up with a 42 yard TD pass. Normally, the conservative Dolphins would have called a running play in that situation. Later in the game on a 3rd and 9 situation, Miami completed a 71 YARD PASS. Once again, Dave Wannstedt teams have been known to go conservative in that spot. When you watch tonight's telecast, we are all going to be constantly reminded the last time the Jets/Dolphins squared off on a Monday Night back in 2000. That contest at the Meadowlands was probably the most memorable MNF game ever as the Jets recovered from a 30-7 deficit in the fourth quarter to pull out a heart-stopping OT win. As I said earlier, strange things have occured in the Jets/Dolphins rivalry over the years. I am going to wrap this up with a mind boggling 25-4 SYSTEM that dates back TEN years. The system sides with UNDERDOGS of 3'-to-10 points after they have FAILED to cover 5 of the prior 6 outings. This incredible 25-4 system applies when we have a horrible team going up against a squad with a winning record. I like our percentages.
GOOD LUCK
